David Copland is a U.S. attorney and counselor representing and counseling businesses on intellectual property matters for over 25 years.  Previously with international law firms in Chicago, David is based in Dresden, Germany where he helps businesses with U.S. legal matters.

David advocates before the U.S. Trademark Office's examining attorneys, the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and domain name dispute panels.  He also counsels on issues of unfair competition, rights of publicity, copyright, and advertising.

Active for many years with the International Trademark Association, David was appointed to INTA's Internet and Courts & Tribunals committees where he served several terms.  David presents on U.S. trademark law for the IP LL.M. program at Dresden's Technical University and the European Law Students Association's summer IP program.  A member of the German-American Lawyers Association (DAJV) and the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR), David has presented on U.S. trade identity issues at DAJV and GRUR events in several German cities.

David studied law at Boston University, completing a concentration in intellectual property with honors and graduating with a Juris Doctor degree.  Prior to his legal studies he worked in licensing at a New York publishing house.

Admitted to practice by the State of Illinois and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and a member of Saxony's chamber of lawyers, Rechtsanwaltskammer Sachsen, David works on U.S. legal matters.
